4 First Day of School Books for Anxious Kids

The first day of school can be very hard for some kids. The thought of having to make friends and being at school alone can be extremely nerve-wracking for children going to school for the first time. So in order to put your little one’s nerves at ease, we have highlighted a few children’s books that explain how going to school and making friends is fun and not scary.

1. I Am Too Absolutely Small for School by Lauren Child. This book is the perfect picture book for any little one who is nervous about his or her first day of school. In the book, Lola is nervous about her first day of school and believes that she is too small for school. Charlie, her older brother, then takes it upon himself to convince her that she isn’t too small and how school is fun.

2. Little School by Beth Norling. This picture book is perfect for any new preschoolers who want to know what they may be doing throughout their day. The story follows a bunch of preschoolers and depicts all of the fun activities that they do on a typical day at school.

3. A Pirate’s Guide to First Grade by James Preller. This book is ideal for anyone who wants to ease the transition of kindergarten to first grade for their kids. We love this book because this humorous story depicts first grade activities from a pirate’s perspective. What child wouldn’t want to go to school with a bunch of imaginary pirates?

4. First Grade Jitters by Robert Quackenbush. This picture book is perfect for any child who is feeling a little nervous about transitioning from kindergarten to first grade. The story follows a little boy named Aidan and how his friends help him to conquer his fears about first grade.

So as the school year starts for many kids in the following days, remember to help ease your child’s fears and nerves with these funny and cool picture books.
