(NEW YORK) — The COVID-19 pandemic has affected pretty much every aspect of our lives, but a new survey suggests it’s really taking a toll on moms.
In fact, 68% of the moms polled said 2020 was the most stressful year of their lives.
The non-scientific poll of 2,022 moms of children under two years of age, commissioned by StoreBrandFormula.com, paid close attention to mothers who are on the financial aid program The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children.
It found 61% of the moms polled were concerned about their financial situation, and 62% said they lost sleep as a result of financial worries — an average of five sleepless nights a month.
Forty-seven percent of respondents said they didn’t have enough money saved for an emergency, and 65% said they’ve cut costs just to feed their family.
Three in 10 of the mothers polled said food costs were the cause of the most financial stress, with 30% saying they’ve skipped meals for themselves just to give their kids more to eat.
Fifty-two percent of the moms polled admitted to watering down their baby’s formula to make it last longer.
Not surprisingly, the top emotions felt by the moms polled included “stress, exhaustion, depression, anxiety and isolation.”
