Single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine effective against COVID-19 variants: Data
Johnson & Johnson and the FDA on Wednesday released respective detailed analysis on the one-shot COVID-19 vaccine, with the FDA announcing the company’s data meets the requirements for the emergency use authorization review process.
The vaccine won’t be authorized until Friday or later. A public hearing will be held Friday, during which the FDA’s independent advisory committee will give an authorization recommendation either for or against its use. The FDA could then make its decision as early as Friday evening.
Importantly, the data released shows the vaccine works against all variants.
If authorized, J&J expects it could have 20 million doses available by March, and 100 million doses by the end of June.

The greatest number of reported COVID-19 cases in the U.S. is in California, with 3,543,340 confirmed cases out of a total state population of 39.51 million. This ranks second in the world after England, which has 3,622,085 cases. Texas is third, with 2,617,096 confirmed cases out of a total state population of 29 million.
Latest reported COVID-19 vaccination numbers in the United States
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports a total of 82,114,370 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been distributed in the U.S. Of those, 65,032,083 doses have been administered, with 44,544,969 people receiving one or more doses, and 19,882,544 people receiving two doses. The Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines, which are the two most prevalent in the U.S., each require two doses to be effective.
